2012 DEKE CONVENTION SCHEDULED FOR JULY 25-28
Join Dekes from all over North America in this summer in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the 168th Stated Convention of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Our hosts will be the Psi-University of Alabama chapter, the 2011 Lion Trophy winners.
The DKE Convention will be a valuable and memorable event. On one hand, it represents the single greatest opportunity to learn about chapter management and improving the DKE experience. You will have an opportunity to learn from DKE International staff, expert Alumni and unaffiliated guest speakers, and from the chapter leaders who are making DKE successful all over North America. On the other hand, you will have a lot of fun, too! You will surely meet and forge new bonds of friendships with Dekes of other chapters. Anyone who has attended a previous convention will tell you it is an incredible experience which you will remember and reminisce about for years to come. Our hosts at Alabama are sure to put on a first-rate show as many meetings will be held in their showcase of a house.
Please plan on arriving in Tuscaloosa by Wednesday evening, July 25. Our Welcoming Reception will be held at 6:00 PM, CDT.
If you're considering carpooling to Tuscaloosa, it's 1,109 miles from NYC (16 hours), 799 miles from D.C. (13 hours) and 717 miles from Chicago (12 hours). When you get to town you won't need your car again until it's time to leave as buses will be provided to the main venues. If you're flying, Birmingham Airport (BHM) is closest. We will arrange transportation both from and to the airport so you will not need to rent a car.
Delegates will be leaving Tuscaloosa on Sunday, July 29.
UNDERGRADUATE COST OF ATTENDANCE:
Per Delta Kappa Epsilon's Constitution, every Chapter is required to send at least one active member to the Fraternity's Conventions. Therefore, DKEHQ invoices each chapter for the cost of one delegate; this year, that cost is $600. However, the cost of each additional delegate is much reduced, so send as many delegates as are willing to learn experience DKE's grandest gathering! DKEHQ is happy to work with Alumni who are willing to fund or mitigate the cost of their undergraduates' participation.
- 1st Delegate Fee: $600 (Billed to Chapter)

- 3rd Delegate Fee: $250

Back in November we surveyed our undergraduates to obtain a consensus on the topics they were most interested in covering. The educational sessions and seminars for delegates will be structured around those topics. As for your free time, the Deke House and the dorms where the actives will be staying are within walking distance to downtown Tuscaloosa, which is a fun college town.
Deke alumni are invited and encouraged to attend as well. There will be activities for Deke alumni and their wives on each day of the Convention, including a golf tournament. Note to Deke Alumni Advisers, alumni association leaders, and any alumni who help to advise a chapter: on Friday there will be a special meeting for you, to discuss topics of interest to alumni associations and house corporations. You should be receiving a survey soon asking for input on the topics you'd find most valuable to talk about such as fundraising, risk management, communications, financial management, and so on. Experts in matters pertinent to Alumni operations, DKE affiliates and non-DKE affiliates, will be attending these meetings.
