Zeta Zeta Wooly Goat Golf Tournament
Shreveport, Louisiana
06/06/2009 - 06/07/2009
Wooly Goat Invitational Golf Tournament: Brother Caldwell Roberts, ZZ'61, reports that “the 3rd Annual Wooly Goat Invitational Golf Tournament, which is open to all Dekes who want to play, will be held at Eastridge Country Club in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 6 & 7, 2009. The golf format will be similar to that used for the last two years, and play will be on Saturday and Sunday.” Caldwell requests that you “please bring your spouse if you plan to attend -- you look better and behave better in their presence.”
Caldwell advises that on “Saturday afternoon a Best Ball will be played, with Tee time at 12:30 p.m., and strokes awarded by the mystic rules committee, based on handicaps. The player with the lowest net score will win the coveted Wooly Goat trophy and be permitted to display it in a conspicuous place in his home the following year. James E. "Lunch-ball" Burt,ZZ'59, won the 2007 trophy, which was replaced in 2008 by a new and improved Wooly Goat trophy, personally crafted by Brother Pat Sewell, ZZ'62. The 2007 trophy will now become the Team trophy and will be awarded to the team with the lowest net score on the team's best two balls. The individual winner of the 2008 Wooly Goat Invitational was Brother Bill Henderson,ZZ'62, and if he can find last year's trophy it will be awarded to the 2009 winner.”
For the players and spouses who come in on Friday there will be cocktails at the Roberts' home about 5:30 p.m., followed by a Dutch treat dinner at Eastridge. On Saturday, lunch will be available at Eastridge for the players at noon, with cocktails and dinner at Eastridge on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning a scramble will be held with tee time to be determined based on the amount of fun had on Saturday night.
Green fees at Eastridge, including cart and range balls, are $37.50 per round. Dinner at Eastridge is $30.00 per person, with a cash bar available; the cost of entrees on Friday night range from $15.00 to $30.00, with lunch on Saturday costing about $10.00.
In 2007 there were two foursomes for golf; in 2008 there were three and they would like to have at least four in 2009. Caldwell guarantees a good time, so even if you do not play golf, or if you feel as Brother Freddie Secunda that “all golf does is ruin a good walk,” plan to attend and maybe they will allow you to steer a golf cart as they do Brother Dickie Culpepper, ZZ ’60. Please e-mail Caldwell Roberts at caldwellroberts@bellsouth.net and let him know if you would like to attend.
Any DEKES living or visiting in the Shreveport area at this time are welcome to participate - just contact Brother Roberts at the above e-mail address.
