Self-governance is one of the purest indicators of chapter success. A chapter that is successfully self-governed has proven that it has the capabilities to identify address its own areas of need and act upon them. This is not to say that a chapter that fully governs itself should not need any external (University/college, the local alumni or DKEHQ) assistance, but that external assistance becomes an aide as opposed to the solution.

Holding brothers and new members accountable for their actions goes a long way to running a chapter. It is important to establish a culture of accountability by having a balance between the president and the judicial board when it comes to addressing issues.
